Combine the highlights of archaeology and nature on this very rewarding day. You’ll travel from Alanya to Aspendos for a visit to its famous Greco-Roman theater. It seats 15,000 spectators and when you visit, you can imagine what it was like to attend a performance here in ancient times. It is said to be the most magnificent and best example of a Roman theater. Its acoustics are outstanding. Even the slightest sound made at the center of the orchestra is heard at the uppermost galleries. Continue to Perge, one of the most beautiful and important cities in Anatolia. It was also an important center for Christianity once it became the official religion of the Roman Empire. St. Paul came to Perge twice during his missionary journeys and delivered a sermon here. Here, the first building you’ll see when entering the city is the ruins of an ancient Greco-Roman theater, from the outside. To the right of the theater, you’ll find one of the best preserved stadiums of ancient times. It is a huge building with two towers and a horseshoe-shaped court. You’ll also see the Agora and other interesting remains of what was once a great city. Continue to a five-star hotel for lunch, where you’ll taste specialties of Turkish cuisine; then, it’s off to the Kursunlu waterfalls. Located in a beautiful park in the midst of a pine forest, the falls are reduced to a mere trickle in the summer months, but gain strength as the rain starts. Local families gather here during the weekend and holidays to barbeque and swim in this tranquil setting. You’ll also have a shopping opportunity at a local shop before returning to your ship. Note: Expect crowded venues and long lines. This tour is not recommended for guests who have difficulty walking, climbing and/or managing steps. Terrain can be slippery near the falls. There are a total of 85 steps to negotiate and uneven, slippery wet grounds on approximately 2 miles of walking. Water, tea & coffee are included during lunch; however, soft drinks and/or alcoholic beverages are available at an additional cost. Tour may be operated in reverse order.
