Easy EphesusThis tour is designed for guests who would like to learn about Ephesus and its surroundings with minimal walking (you will not enter the Open-Air Museum of Ephesus). After an approximate one hour drive from the pier, you’ll arrive at the Upper Gate of Ephesus and you’ll be given information about Ephesus from the outside. This is one of the most magnificent excavations in the world. You’ll have free time for pictures and shopping outside the Upper Gate while seeing the Odeon. After a short drive, there will be another photo stop at the Statue of Virgin Mary. The statue is on the way to the House of Virgin Mary where the Blessed Virgin is reputed to have spent the last years of her life. Your next stop will be at the Interior Gate of Ephesus where you can find souvenirs and facilities as well as more information about Ephesus from outside while seeing the Great Theatre. You’ll continue to the Archeological Museum of Ephesus with its nine exhibits tracing the religious and chronological history of the ancient city. The museum exhibits several marble statues of the Mother Goddess Artemis – goddess of nature, childbirth, and the harvest. Your final venue is the Temple of Artemis, which is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and was used to cheer up all the visitors coming to Ephesus from the sea. Continue to Kusadasi downtown for a panoramic ride and a stop for a shopping opportunity and refreshments before returning to your ship. Note: This tour does not include a visit to the Ephesus Open-Air Museum and House of Virgin Mary. During summer months, expect crowded venues and long lines as well as temperatures that can reach extreme highs. We recommend that you drink a lot of water, use suitable sun protection and dress in layers. Guests who are planning to visit religious sites during free time or on tour, please dress appropriately; no bare shoulders or shorts are allowed.
